How I not forget (and forget)

2022

(DE) Für ihre erste Einzelausstellung “How I not forget (and forget)” verwendete sie einfache Alltagstextilien.

In 2020, I began making things again with an embroidery set that I happened to receive as a birthday present from my first friend in Germany. At that time, a needle and thread were affordable for me and easy to work with. I cut up a shopping bag I had at home and started embroidering the motifs I saw on my desk. That was the beginning of this series. Since then, I’ve been thinking about what I am actually doing, why I embroider, and what I choose to embroider. I copy my reality with my own hands. By “reality,” I mean the issues, problems, worries, documents, and ideas I confront in my daily life. I forget many things. But I want to remember as much as I can. These works are both the method and the process through which I try not to forget and to forget lovingly and respectfully.
